{"id":526,"date":"2015-06-09T04:44:49","date_gmt":"2015-06-09T04:44:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/54.201.249.27\/?p=526"},"modified":"2015-06-09T04:44:49","modified_gmt":"2015-06-09T04:44:49","slug":"washington-post-with-a-series-of-major-hacks-china-builds-a-database-on-americans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blackopspartners.com\/washington-post-with-a-series-of-major-hacks-china-builds-a-database-on-americans\/","title":{"rendered":"Washington Post: With a series of major hacks, China builds a database on Americans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>China is building massive databases of Americans\u2019 personal information by hacking government agencies and U.S. health-care companies, using a high-tech tactic to achieve an age-old goal of espionage: recruiting spies or gaining more information on an adversary, U.S. officials and analysts say.<\/p>\n<p>Groups of hackers working for the Chinese government have compromised the networks of<a title=\"www.washingtonpost.com\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/national-security\/chinese-hackers-breach-federal-governments-personnel-office\/2015\/06\/04\/889c0e52-0af7-11e5-95fd-d580f1c5d44e_story.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0the Office of Personnel Management<\/a>, which holds data on millions of current and former federal employees, as well as the health insurance giant Anthem, among other targets, the officials and researchers said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re definitely going after quite a bit of personnel information,\u201d said Rich Barger, chief intelligence officer of ThreatConnect, a Northern Virginia cybersecurity firm. \u201cWe suspect they\u2019re using it to understand more about who to target [for espionage], whether electronically or via human \u00adrecruitment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The targeting of large-scale data\u00adbases is a relatively new tactic and is used by the Chinese government to further its \u00adintelligence-gathering, the officials and analysts say.
